The Broomfield Simmental herd was set up in 2002. The main aim was to produce top quality Simmental cattle and not quantity. We had a taste for the show scene after showing along with Mr Noel Woods of the Brookwood Simmental herd for 2 years prior to that. After showing in 2002 along with Noel I purchased my first breeding female that Noel had shown that year. When buying breeding stock I purchased from established lines of breeding. The Brookwood herd was a well established heard with various National titles.
Brookwood Nina won the North East January Heifer Champion at Virginia Show and had a very good show in Tullamore placed 4th in the class. From there we went on to purchase 2 more breeding cows from noel. Brookwood Pretty Polly a Milton Lord tiffany heifer won the North East September heifer at Virginia the following year with Noel and she also was purchased. She also had a good show in Tullamore placed 4th in the September class.
A half sister to Nina, Brookwood Regina a March calf was purchased the same time as Pretty Polly, she placed 2nd in the North East January Simmental Championship in a very strong field of heifers.
The blood lines purchased from Noel have proven for many year, these blood lines that have made Brookwood Simmentals the name it has to this day. Broomfield simmentals will carry on these bloodlines to produce quality cattle for years to come.
The area farmed in Broomfield is less than 10 acres but another 12 is leased. In starting to breed Simmentals I seen that unless the top quality animals are bred we will not obtain top results. We aim to keep the number of cattle small, having a small number of breeding cows in the herd at a time. We use AI to maintain all of our top bloodlines available to include Hillcrest Champion, Hillcrest King, Raceview King, Enfield Benz, Milton Lord Tiffany and FBX
